“Cállame
con un Beso” (CCUB) is the final book in the “Canciones para Paula” series.
This is a Spanish series written by a Spanish author. This series follows the
“sugus”, a group of friends in Madrid, their adventures and misadventures as
they grow up.
Several
months after the previous book, Paula has been studying in London. And she’s
been struggling there, missing everything, but specially her boyfriend, Alex.
Alex also misses Paula even founding difficult to continue with his work as a
writer. In the meanwhile, Miriam has
fallen into a dark place; therefore Mario and Diana started to worry about her.
At the same time, they fight for their relationship.
However, how did Paula and Alex
got together again, and what had happened with Cris.
CCUB
was a gripping and awesome book. In addition to that it was in my personal
opinion an outstanding ending to a really good Spanish series. The first thing
I would want to point out is the pace of the series, in general. It isn’t too
fast, but it definitely isn’t slow. The other thing, also common to the whole
series, is the realism of it. In my opinion this is the main appeal of this
series, as well as, the principal thing on what account the story look as easy
to follow as it is. I don’t mean that the books don’t have dramatic turns;
nonetheless, most of them don’t appear fictive. Although, the dramatic turn of
events regarding Miriam got a bit all over the place in this last book. These
events got balanced by slipping in the flash backs, which personally I think
made the book.
Another thing I like about these
books is the fact that even if Paula is the main character, her friends’
storylines are quite important. I mainly like this because I don’t really like
Paula as a character. I find her the typical annoying teenager who has every
boy after her. I can’t relate to this kind of characters, especially when they
are as irritating as Paula.
I like the fact that there are
some positive body image messages hidden on the series, especially with Diana
and Pandora. Nevertheless, I think the author is unable to make them seem
believable.
I previously said I liked the
flashbacks, nevertheless, I think we lost too much things, and just few were
told. Therefore my connection with some characters got a bit damaged.
In conclusion this book, as well
as the series, was a fantastic book. I know few Spanish series as this one,
furthermore I hope for them to be translated into some other languages, so they
can be enjoyed all over the world.
