Allegiant is the third and final
book in the Divergent trilogy written by Veronica Roth. Probably everyone knows
what the series is about since the first book was turned this year into a
movie. The story develops in a city where the population is divided into
factions based on their characters: Abnegation, Amity, Dauntless, Candor and
Erudite. Each faction has a role in society; and at the age of sixteen kids are
put into a test which will show them what their character is, and then they
will choose any faction they want. Something went wrong in our main character
test, which will change her life and the ones surrounding her forever.
Now, Four’s mother, the leader of
the factionless, governs the city. The video released by Tris, in which her
ancestor told them about the reason of the existence of the city, has brought
several consequences. The most important is the formation of a new group called
Allegiant. This group wants to send some of their members out to see what is
out there. Tris, Christina, Four are among this members who will go out.
However, what they will find out might not be what they were expecting.
Allegiant was a good ending to a
fantastic series. There was a huge controversy about two main topics: the
ending and the addition of Four’s point of view. About the ending, I personally
wouldn’t have done what the author did, nonetheless I understand why she did it
and I respect her decision. I also think she would have been criticized even if
the ending was different, it happens all the time when an epic series ends. As Four’s
point of view, I personally loved the addition of Four point of view, It didn’t
changed my opinion about him, it made me even love him more since I think I got
to know him better. I understand his decisions, his feelings even when he made
bad decisions.
If there
is something I didn’t like about this book is the mistreated Four is by Tris
all the time. She had betrayed him before and he let her explained herself.
However, when he does something she doesn’t want him to do she doesn’t listen
to him.
To sum up, Allegiant was, in my
opinion, a good book. It gave me what I wanted, a ending which wrapped up the
story without leaving lose ties. It is worthy of your time.
