“Daughter of Smoke and Bone” is a fantasy novel, the first in a trilogy, written by Laini Taylor. I founded this book at the airport last year and bought it right away since I have heard nothing but god things about it on booktube. I started it but I didn’t get into it and put it aside. Last month I decided to bring it with me to the beach, as it was the perfect small paperback you can take everywhere.

Karou has always lived to separate lives. On one hand she was an art student living in Prague, on the other hand she worked making errands for Brimstone, a quimaera. How she made it to be raised by this monster is a mystery as well as many things in Karou’s life. She just knows one thing Brimstone in his shop trades teeth for wishes; another mystery is what he uses these teeth for. To get into his store you have to be opened the door from the inside, and the door is situated in several different points of the earth. Suddenly, handprints started to appear on the doors used to get to the Brimstone’s. These handprints are a sign of seraphim, and one of them might encounter Karou and change her life completely.

“Daughter of Smoke and Bone” was a really good fantasy book. The story slowly drags you in, until you find yourself unable to put the book down. The world development was interesting, since the main character doesn’t know much about the world and finds out at the same time we do. That’s maybe the reason why the world wasn’t set completely, or explained as a whole. Because there are another two books in this series and I am pretty sure the world is by far more complex than the part actually described in this first installment. However, I found admirable the detailed description of several places around the world in which the plot takes part. I also think Prague was a perfect set for the story since it has that eerie background other cities might not have.
As for the characters I might say I liked Karou but I didn’t connected with her in the way I would have wanted to. I liked Suzanna better and I missed their human life characters once everything starts happening.
The other thing I want to talk about is the pace; It was really slow in the beginning. In the first quarter of the book I didn’t know what I was reading about, neither were the story was going. Once past that quarter it began to be much more interesting and action packed, which I appreciated. That’s why I would suggest to anyone that might want to stop reading because nothing is happening to keep going because I gets mysterious and nail-biting to the point you will not me able to stop reading.

As a conclusion, “Daughter of Smoke and Bone” was an awesome first part in which I am sure would be an amazing series. I will recommend this book to anyone looking for a new fantasy series with paranormal aspects you haven’t probably read about before.

October Wrap Up - November TBR

Hello again everyone, Today starts a new month and that means that it is time to wrap up the previous month and set this month's TBR. Last month I set an ambitious TBR which I was unable to complete entirely, but I did manage to get a lot read which makes me kind of happy. As I also said on the previous month's post I was going to center this past month's TBR on the "Sweep/ Wicca" series by Cate Tiernan, and that is what I did. I managed to finish the sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth, and get thought half of the eleventh. I have enjoyed most of this books, however the last two, Seeker and Origins, change the point of view and I have not been able to click with them as I was able to so with the other ones. As for the November TBR, I want to still finish this series, reading the twelfth, thirteenth, fourteenth and sixteenth books in the series, Eclipse, Reckoning, Full Circle and Night Child. Appart from that, I want to keep finishing s...
