“Unravel
Me” is the second book in the “Shatter me” series written by Tahereh Mafi. The
series is set in a future were the nations do not exist as the do now, the
continents are divided into sectors and there is just one big government all
countries are part of: “The reestablishment”. The reestablishment has everyone
under his sight and controls everything.
Juliette
has been held in different centers her whole life, she is dangerous: her touch
can kill. Adam and Warner are the only one’s who can touch her and she escaped
from Warner to go with Adam, even thought he told her he loved her. They have
been living at Omega point for a while. They are the resistance group against
the reestablishment. There live others as Juliette who has special abilities.
Castle and Kenji have been studied the reason why Adam can touch her. They
have, as well, tried to help her control her ability. However to control her
power she has to know what it triggers it, and learn what is she capable of.
“Unravel
me” was a really good book, however I must say I did not love it from the
beginning. The first part of the book was a little tedious and repetitive.
However, I must say the action at the end make it up for this. I especially
enjoyed the intense moments between Juliette and the rest of the characters. I
also really like how the character of Juliette develops, since I could not
stand her most of the time in the first book, as well as, at the very beginning
of this one. Kenji is another worth mention character that I loved, especially
the humorous tone he gave to the book. Most people seemed to start hating Adam
in this book, nonetheless; I understand him and his point regarding most
things. The character I did not find necessary was Castle, it is not that I did
not like it, it is just that I do not find his character neither interesting,
neither necessary. About the plot, I found it interesting; however, I find the
world in this dystopia not really developed.
All in
all, Unravel me is a book I recommend to everyone who loves dystopia as well as
character driven stories, even if you did not enjoy the first book in the
series.
