Wicked
is the fifth book in the Pretty Little Liars series written by Sara Shepard. It
is also the first book on what it considered the second arc of the series.
Everything
should be perfect on Rosewood. Ali’s murderer is behind the bars and A a.k.a.
Mona, the stalker who had been making our girl's life a nightmare is dead. Of
course, Aria, Spencer, Emily and Hanna have still to deal with Ali’s death. To
deal with the issues it might have caused them they have started group therapy,
all together. Therefore why isn’t our pretty little Liars life perfect?
Aria’s attraction to older guys
is becoming a habit, but this time it might interfere with her family.
Spencer’s problems with her family might be deeper than a competitive
relationship between sisters, deeper than what Spencer would have ever
imagined. Hanna’s struggles with her new family affect her status, bringing her
to old bad habits. Not forgetting about
Emily’s crazy untraceable orientation.
However, their problems are
minimal if we compared to the appearance of a new A, when Ian’s trial is around
the corner.
Wicked
was a nail-biting book. It met all my expectations as a Pretty Little Liars
book. It was intriguing, as well as mysterious. I was happy to be able to know
more about Spencer’s family, as I think her family is related somehow to
Ali’s family, and why not, Ali’s murder. Spencer’s family is really interesting
because they seem to have a lot of locked drawers full of secrets.
Also, being able to learn more
about Hanna’s new family, which had been always in the background. In addition,
the murder case gets more attention and as I love mysteries on books I enjoyed
this part. However, every single thing told brought more questions.
On the other hand, Aria’s
troubles seemed a little unrealistic, as well as uninteresting. That added to
the fact that I really liked Aria and Ezra as a couple, made, in my opinion,
Aria’s chapters tedious. Together with the fact that Emily’s life, which hadn’t
ever been compelling, made me unable to give the book a 5/5 rating.
In
conclusion, Wicked was what I was expecting a Pretty Little Liars series book:
about 300 pages book full of mystery, plotting and secrets. If you liked the
previous ones, you will like this one too.
