“Ugly
Love” is a stand-alone novel by Colleen Hoover, a really popular author in the
contemporary genre, author of the “Hopeless” and the “Slammed” series.
Tate just
moved to San Francisco, and is staying at her brother’s apartment until she
finds a place on her own. Her brother is a pilot and lives in a complex where
other mates also live. The first day, as she arrives a guy is drunk on her
brother’s door, after calling her brother and finding out he is one of her
brother’s mates she lets him in. She and Miles, the guy, will later agree to a
beneficial relationship with no feelings attached, however both are by that
time already in love with each other.
“Ugly
Love” was an interesting contemporary novel. I would like to say that it even
sounded realistic in these days, when most people just hang out and do not
really commit from minute one. I liked how the author plays with the past of
Miles to show the reason of his behavior in the present time. However, what I
did not like is that none of Tate’s past mattered in this book, she speaks now
and there about not so good experiences but it is never addressed, and that
made the character feel a little incomplete. Nevertheless, the book was really
compelling and easy to read that I really enjoyed it.
To
conclude, “Ugly Love” was a compelling contemporary worth reading.
